No Health or Dental Insurance

I have no clue why health care is not available to everyone who is a United States Citizen, especially children.

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday I just so happen to brake a tooth, eating a noodle of all things. When I went to the emergency dentist, they told me of all things I have to have 3 root canals. Oh boy, the bill with out insurance $6,700.00 with insurance, $2,400. That difference is just unreal to me. How would anyone ever afford to pay the cost of a $6,700.00 dentist bill.

My youngest son because of the term, "Pre-existing" is unable to get health insurance. We have called everyone and I have scouted online as well trying to figure out just what we can do to insure our youngest son. With no luck, we were forced a few months ago to have to go to the emergency room, he had a full blown asthmatic attack, not something uncommon for children who suffer with asthma. We were at home one early morning when my youngest started having breathing problems. His asthma medication was not working, so I called 911. To make a long story short. We were taken by ambulance to one hospital and later that night, transferred by ambulance to a local childrens hospital. Once there we saw a total of 5 doctors. The first 2 doctors each looked at my son for no more then 5 minutes each, we never saw either doctor again. Two (2) days later we were released with stronger asthma medication and some very helpful information on controlling our son's asthma.

Not more then 30 days later, if not sooner, the bills started to come in, totally for his car for two (2) full days, two (2) ambulance rides, was a whopping $7,000.00 The two (2) doctors that saw our son for no more then 5 minutes each, they were so kind to charge, for one doctor $569.00 and the other doctor $459.00. The one doctor did nothing, and the second doctor I am speaking about, listened to my son's chest and left the room. The first doctor, ask us some basic questions, then listened to my son's chest, and left the room. My son received an x-ray, this was the lowest fee on his whole bill, total for his chest x-ray was $100.00. The hospital room itself for two (2) days was around $3,000- the rest of the fee's were like $25.00 for a pillow, $30.00 for a few bandages, blood pressure readings and just items that were needed for my son at the time. As I looked through the stack of bills from this emergency stay, wondering through my own mind- what do people do that do not have health care for their children? Why is it that we seem to be the only country in which health care is not mandated or where health care cost the most.

Insurance rates are out of this world in cost, with prescription medication costing the uninsured an arm and leg. We are above the guidelines for any medical assistance, so we are forced to have to pay the whole medical cost.
Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the wonderful doctors and nurses that treated my son, the hospital staff was simply amazing, helpful and very very nice. My son was treated like a king.. but then the reality of the bills sets in and it just makes me wonder what all these children do, that do not have health insurance. How do these children get the treatment they need, when they need it. Paying cash, well there are huge discounts for those who can afford to pay cash for medical treatments, and prescriptions as well, but what about the un-insured? Who in the long run is paying for this cost..

Just my own thoughts....
